The power of biographies. The results biographies can bring are rarely matched. The outstanding samples you can review here have made an immense difference, and can communicate an image of commanding distinction. They’re like an article about you when you speak at a conference. Typically 3 to 5 pages, the storytelling narrative style makes you sound interesting. Second, it is easier to avoid disclosure of liabilities. Using photos on resumes. Selecting the right photograph to use on your resume is a big decision. Obviously, you can’t just throw any picture of yourself on key documents. Never try to sell everything about yourself! Since this will be your initial resume for getting interviews, it must be a fast read and a good advertisement for you, your skills and what you can deliver. The quick response resume. With today’s competition, it has become difficult to get through to executive decision makers. We’ve designed a style of resume which has consistently had an ability to cause executives to take action. Basically, it is a resume is for getting past gatekeepers. We call it a Quick Response Resume. Essentially, it positions the text toward the right-hand side of the page so you have room to write a personal hand written note, and then send the resume without a cover letter. Anything personal works best.
Narrative resumes. Some people call these letter-resumes. There is little question they can work better then sending traditional materials.
Resumes for large mailings. One of the concerns with doing mailings is the financial cost of getting mailings done. We’ve grappled with this issue for years, because large direct mailing campaigns for people at all levels may still offer the quickest way to produce interview activity. Even the U.S. Government, in their handouts to people seeking new jobs, strongly recommends going directly to employers. Traditionally, the response is low but there is a higher closing rate when it comes to converting to offers.

Sending letters direct to employers. Sending top letters to your best prospects can be very effective. We’ve also found that it pays to follow up your letter with a phone call. Exploring international jobs. There are about four to eight million Americans working in other countries. Of course, the rules under which you can exist overseas and maintain your citizenship depend on the guidelines of the U.S. State Department. A lot of Americans love thinking of living and working overseas. They’re intrigued by the excitement, the chance to experience new cultures, and the opportunity to see new places, do new things and expand their horizons.
Sending sponsored letters to employers. A sponsored letter is a one-page letter written on the letterhead of a third party, and sent to individual decision makers who might need your talent. Rather than you writing on behalf of yourself, this is a little like your having an agent summarize powerful and positive things about you—and then bring them to the attention of another executive who might have a need for you. We have had a lot of experience with this method of personal marketing, and many people may find it worthwhile to look into. Building maximum chemistry. Here, we discuss building personal chemistry with everyone you meet. When it comes down to a few candidates, competence is rarely the issue. Chemistry is where it’s at. Last year there were millions of interviews, and no two were the same. So how do you prepare? Consider comparing this to a sports contest—there were millions of them, and none were the same. In an interview or a contest, you can’t plan exactly how things will go— but you can have a strategy for influencing things yo go your way.
